Phillip Norvelle Mayers passed away peacefully December 15, 2024 at Hospice of Wichita Falls, surrounded by his loving family. Phillip was born in Seymour, Texas on October 16, 1942 to John and Ula Mayers. He was preceded in death by his father John W. Mayers, his mother Ula Plummer Mayers, his brother, Felton Mayers and grandbaby Adam Bryant Gallandat. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Beach Mayers along with their 2 beloved dogs Bonnie and Missy; daughter, Tracia Scott and husband Chris Scott of Bowie, Texas; daughter, Mikki Gallandat and husband Matt Gallandat of Silverton, Colorado; daughter, Samantha Castilleja and husband Robert Castilleja of Seymour; grandchildren, Justin Scott and wife Jenny Scott of State College, Pennsylvania; Ashley Gibbons and husband Hayden Gibbons of New Tazwell, Tennessee; Jessica Mitchell and husband Justin Mitchell of Fort Worth, Texas; Colton Gallandat of Canyon, Texas; Adrian Castilleja, Aliyah Castilleja, Addison Castilleja and Ava Castilleja of Seymour; and great grandchild Baby Gibbons coming in April 2025.
Phillip married Sandra Beach May 31, 1963, at First Baptist Church of Seymour, Texas where they made their church home for over 60 years. Phillip began working air-conditioning sales and service in 1962. He later opened his own business, Mayers Heating and Air Conditioning, in which he cared for many families throughout the Seymour community as well as other communities in this area. His business was very important to him. He always tried to be fair and customer conscious. If someone had a hard time paying, he worked with them and never let anyone go without. He and Sandra worked together for many years, and he would always do anything in his power for her and all his kids and grandkids. He continued working until he retired in 2022 at the age of 80.
Throughout his life he worked with his hands in many ways. He enjoyed wood-working, crocheting, charcoal drawing and oil painting. He also loved classical music and bluegrass alike and spent many years playing his guitars. He also always had to have the most up to date technology available.
His love for his family is immeasurable but was felt by every member of the family. Although he was never a big fan of crowds or parties, he attended every event his kids and grandkids were involved in. He was a gentle and loving Dad and Papaw and if he gave you a hard time, that is how you knew that he loved you. His mother taught him the Bible truths and set a sense of discipline in his mind from early years even through his high school years. Sandra and Phillip attended First Baptist Church of Seymour where he was a Deacon and served wherever he was needed.
His days of retirement were spent with Missy and Bonnie right by his side while he watched westerns, farming vlogs, Texas Longhorns or Dallas Cowboys. He also loved watching college basketball and cross-country and track. He was the biggest fan of the Seymour Panthers and Lady Panthers but especially when his grandson and grand daughters were on the team. He was a proud and faithful supporter of all his grand children's activities and when he couldn't be there in person, he would watch them online. He will be deeply missed here on earth, but we know he is right at home in Heaven.
