Phillip Ray Wampler, Jr., affectionately known as "Bub" to his friends and family, passed away on, Friday, April 4, 2025, in Bedford, Indiana, at the age of 38. Born on February 2, 1987, in Bloomington, Indiana, Phillip was a man of many talents and a loving presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Phillip is survived by a loving family that includes his parents, Karl (Debbie) Wampler and Debi (Kevin) Terrell; his cherished daughters, Hailey Wampler and Devanee Taelor Wampler; his caring sisters, Kristin (Tyler Collins) Wampler and Holly (Matt) Erwin, as well as brother, Mitchell (Reannon) Wampler. He was a fun and devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews, Brooklyn Scott, Braelyn Wampler, Bryant Collins, Nolan Erwin, Willow Wampler, Harlow Wampler, and Zander Wampler. His paternal grandparents, Phillip (Judith) Wampler, and maternal grandparents, Shirley (Ray) Smith and Gary (Margie) Shepherd, along with his aunts and uncles, Michael (Mary Beth) Wampler, Jeffrey Wampler, Travis Smith, and Vicki (Mike) Klyn, will remember him fondly.
Phillip was preceded in death by his uncle, Danny Shepherd, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms.
Phillip's work as a talented carpenter showcased his skillful hands and creative mind. His dedication to craftsmanship was matched by his commitment to his country, having served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Iraq War. His service was a testament to his bravery and sense of duty. Artistic by nature, Phillip had a passion for drawing and making art. He often journaled his thoughts and experiences, capturing moments of his life with words and sketches. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed playing basketball, and his love for the outdoors was evident in his frequent hikes and camping trips. Phillip had an appreciation for cinema and was known for quoting lines from his favorite movies. His scrap booking was a way of preserving memories, and his interactions with animals showcased his gentle side. Music was a constant in Phillip's life, providing a soundtrack to his days. Known for his sense of humor, Phillip could always be counted on to tell a joke and bring laughter to any gathering. His handy nature meant he was often called upon to fix things, a task he took on with skill and patience. Above all, Phillip was loving. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his beliefs, carrying his Bible everywhere he went and finding solace in its teachings. His passion for sharing scripture and the love of God with others showed his kind and generous spirit. His warmth and kindness touched the hearts of those around him, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.
A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 2:30 pm at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with Pastor Grant Quimby officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery on Liberty Hollow Road with Military Honors provided by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm at Chandler Funeral Home.
