Phillip G. Wilson

Phillip G. Wilson, age 84, of Hillsdale, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 18, 2025. He was born March 29, 1941, in Hillsdale to Ivan and Phyllis (Howell) Wilson. Phil married Janice "Jan" Ruder on June 9, 1963, and she preceded him in death on October 4, 2021.

Phil graduated from Quincy High School and from Jackson Community College with an associate's degree in engineering. He worked as a tool and die maker for several local tool and die shops before becoming an account manager for several area manufacturing companies, and as the general manager for Adams Tooling in Lansing. In 1995, Phil founded PW Co., where he worked as the journeyman tool and die maker until his passing. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Allen, and he attended College Baptist Church. Together with his wife, Phil was a member of the Hillsdale County Historical Society where they enjoyed roasting peanuts, refurbishing the Will Carleton Poorhouse, and establishing the Farm Festival. Phil leaves behind a legacy of love for his family and service to others.

Survivors include one daughter, Penny Wilson of Howell; daughter-in-law, Laura Wilson of Pittsford; two grandsons, Tyler (Brietta) Wilson of Auburn, Alabama, and Travis (Hannah) Wilson of Pittsford; and four great-grandchildren, Elena, Emily, Calla, Jasper, and one on-the-way.

In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years, Jan Wilson, Phil was preceded in death by one son, Philip I. Wilson.

A visitation for Phillip G. "Phil" Wilson will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 2:00-6:00 PM at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with a time of sharing beginning at 6:00 PM. Phil will be laid to rest at a private graveside service at Churches Corners Cemetery in Wheatland Township with Pastor Ben Cuthbert officiating.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society or College Baptist Church.
