Phyllis Arlene DuBois was born in Britton, Oklahoma, the third of six children to George and Belle (Hughes) DuBois. She went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2024.
Phyllis graduated from Wiggins High School as valedictorian of her class in 1947. Married to Leon Washburn on March 28, 1948, their union yielded two sons, Rodney and Kieth. This marriage ended in 1957. On December 31, 1960 Phyllis married Glen Carlock, adding his daughters Evelyn and Elizabeth to their family. Glenda Carlock (Wagner) was born to this union.
Phyllis lived most of her life in the Wiggins & Fort Morgan areas, working at Wells Lamont Glove Factory, many area cafés & as head bookkeeper at First National Bank. In January 1976, Glen & Phyllis moved to
Dewey, Arizona (near Prescott) for climate reasons. In May 1980, they returned to the ranch east of Wiggins to take care of their cattle operation and called the Bijou Creek Ranch their home. Phyllis loved the ranch life and was happy to be back near their grandchildren.
Phyllis enjoyed hosting large family gatherings, always decorating elaborately to match the theme of the party. She was a member of the Buckskin Brigade and enjoyed showing horses. An expert seamstress, she made many of her own clothes including a winter coat & most of Glenda's wardrobe. Phyllis was an active member of Wiggins Community Church, eventually serving as the church secretary. She organized the Operation Christmas Child drive each year & participated in various fundraisers, offering her tole-painted & stained-glass items. She pieced unique queen-sized quilts for each of her eight grandchildren in honor of their high school graduations. She was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan & cheered them enthusiastically as she watched the games on TV.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Glen, brother Billy and sisters Wanda Greenwald and Marjorie Stockham, sister-in-law Nancy DuBois, and sons-in-law Fred Hope and Norman Garland, and grandsons Hal and Fred Meek. She is survived by sons Rod Washburn (Dana) & Kieth Washburn (Marcia) of Ft. Morgan, daughter Glenda Wagner of Oklahoma, brothers Bob Dubois of AZ & Jim (Sherry) of OK; step-daughters Evelyn Hope of Greeley & Elizabeth Garland of Walsenburg. Grandchildren include Brian, Phil (Amie), Nate, John (Crystal), Josiah (Mallory), and Tim (Sarah) Washburn, Shelly (Bill) Berhost, Jenna (Kenny) Christofferson, Mike (Cathy) & Craig (Barbara) Hope, Mary (Johnny) Riddle, Kevin (Nivea) Meek and Sherry Meek Smith. She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, and many nephews, and nieces.
A funeral service will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church at Eben Ezer in Brush at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 15th.
