Phyllis Jean Gutknecht of St. John, IN, passed away on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at the age of 78. She was born September 7th, 1946, to John Bol and Effie Keizer Bol who preceded her in death.
Phyllis graduated from Lafayette Christian Grade School and then graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. Phyllis then went on to receive a degree in business from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. She was a homemaker, retired property manager and co-owner of Colman Manufacturing in Tampa, Florida. A devoted and loving mother, wife, sister and grandmother, Phyllis dedicated her life to her family and community. She was a past member of Community Reformed Church and most recently attended Crestview Community Church.
Phyllis married Bob Dexter in 1964, and they had three children. Phyllis is survived by her children Michael Robert Dexter (Maria), Joy Lynn Silvers (Troy), and Mark Alan Dexter (Jennifer); grandchildren Taylor Loughlin (Nick), Jordan Silvers, Dylan Dexter and Morgan York (Matt) and great-grandson, Grayson Loughlin; sisters Carol Withers, Fran Raisor and Janice Garrison.
In November 1986, Phyllis married the love of her life Thomas Sheets, who preceded her in death in February 1989 after a short battle with cancer. They had a very happy marriage, and she carried his presence with her throughout the remainder of her life.
In October 2006, she married Al Gutknecht, and they resided in The Villages, Florida until Al preceded her in death in May 2018. Al and Phyllis enjoyed their days traveling, spending time with friends, playing cards and riding around in their Corvette.
Phyllis will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the family she adored. A visitation will be held at Soller-Baker Funeral Home (400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette, Indiana) with family and close friends on Saturday, May 17th from 10:00-11:30am with a service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lafayette Christian School or St Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Phyllis.

Aunt Phyllis was a dear aunt to me. I have such fond memories of her. Family was SO important to her. Sincere sympathy to her children, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchild. We were all Blessed by her presence.
