Phyllis J. McCurdy, age 94, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 12:45 a.m. at her home.
She was born on June 1, 1930, in Marion, IL, the only child of Leland and Ethel (Roberts) Jackson.
She was united in marriage to John L. McCurdy on May 27, 1960 in Marion, IL and together they shared over sixty-three years of marriage until he preceded her in death on August 2, 2023.
After graduating from Marion High School, Phyllis furthered her education by taking courses at VTI. She began her working career at Sangamo Electric Company in the Ordill area. She later went to work with her parents for their family-owned business, The Busy Bee in Marion. Later on, she worked in the lunch room for Lincoln School of Marion. But her most cherished career was that of being a devoted wife and mother.
Phyllis was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Marion. At the time of her passing, Phyllis was the church's longest-serving member, holding a lifelong membership of ninety-four years. Her years of faithfulness to God's kingdom at Second Baptist Church include years of teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and record keeping for the Sunday School department.
Phyllis loved to garden and work in her yard, particularly mowing. She was very talented at cross stitching, knitting and quilting and was a "Gone With The Wind" enthusiast, developing quite an impressive memorabilia collection down through the years. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved to watch them play. But above those things, she cherished spending time with her beloved husband, sons, grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Phyllis will be remembered as a fun-loving, ornery and feisty lady whose life was filled with laughter, faith in her Lord, and an immeasurable love for her family. The many memories shared with her will now be treasured by the family and friends she leaves behind.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Kristine) McCurdy and Michael McCurdy (Julie Lambert), all of Marion, IL; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn McCurdy (Chris Henry), Olivia McCurdy, Steven Impini, Kyle (Kalee) Impini, Dakodah McCurdy and Zachary McCurdy; great-granddaugthers, Charlie McCurdy and Margot Impini; sister-in-law, Dorothy Newby; niece, Danette Reynolds Beers (Kenny Borchelt); and several other nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and best friend, Shirley Nemeth.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
The visitation will be held at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
