Phyllis E. Nivison, age 103, of Waldron, previously of Hudson passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born on September 12, 1921, in Pittsford, to Arthur and Doris (MacKinnon) Fish. She married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Nivison on June 4, 1948, and he preceded her in death in August of 1997.
Phyllis graduated from Jonesville High School in 1940 and went on to work at Kiddie Brush and Toy in Jonesville for several years. She was a longtime member of the Hudson United Methodist Church and participated in several organizations within the church. She loved to sing and could be found in the choir, caroling, and even in the cantata around the holidays. She had a passion for reading which led to her being a part of the buddy reading program with the Waldron School system. She also wrote for the Hudson Post Gazette and read the Hudson happenings on a local radio station.
Phyllis had a kind heart and infectious smile that everyone who met her felt. She loved spending time with her family and friends. In her younger years, Phyllis enjoyed bowling and won many tournaments. She loved to dance and spent many evenings dancing with her husband at the local Legion and Elk's. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. She loved to bake and made amazing homemade pies. Phyllis was a talented knitter and if you were lucky, you likely had clothing she knitted for you.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Rick (Penny) Nivison, of Pittsford; one granddaughter, Rachel (Erik) Gier; three great-grandsons, Graycen, Owen, and Dawson; and two sisters-in-law, Winnie Fish and Barb Stanfield.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Dawn Nivison; and five siblings, Arthur, John, Dave, Jerry Fish and Margaret Diffenbaugh.
A celebration of life will take place in the spring of 2025. Final interment will take place at Waldron Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Waldron District Library. Arrangements have been entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
