Phyllis Maxine Stroup
97, of Mussey Township, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at home with family by her side.
She was born in Capac, August 26, 1924, the daughter of the late Paul and Lillian (Jurn) Kaufman.
Her marriage to William Douglas Stroup, Jr., was June 16, 1944, in Capac. William passed away April 2, 2012, after 67 years of marriage.
Phyllis was a lifetime Capac area resident who attended Capac schools and had attended Capac 1st United Methodist Church and Zion United Methodist Church. Phyllis was employed at the factory in Capac during World War II, where she helped make helmets for our troops. She then worked 22 years as the first female bus driver and route organizer for Capac Public Schools, where she loved her job and all of her student passengers. Phyllis helped her husband with his businesses, too, including book keeping and the original development of the Emmett KOA, formally known as Beech Grove, where the two designed and were owners for many years.
Phyllis was a member of Capac's Half Century Club. She enjoyed bowling, softball, and golfing, earning the distinction of having two "Hole-in-One" games. She was a founding member of Capac Winter Rover's Snowmobile Club. In her later years, Phyllis and her husband spent their winters in Florida. Phyllis was still very active at age 97. She enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, and watching the plethora of wild life animals in her back yard; deer, birds and squirrels. In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting and loved playing cards with friends.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Chuck McMillin of Yale, Kay and Michael Lietz of Allenton, and Kim and Bill Oliver of Texas; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Langley of Burton, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by six siblings, Speed Kaufman, Betty Klug, Donald Kaufman, Nancy Clark, Cliff Kaufman, and Ronnie Kaufman.
The family honors the memory of Phyllis and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac.
