Pietrina (Morleo) Noeske
January 1, 1929 – December 9, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Pietrina Noeske, who passed away on December 9, 2024, in Livonia, Michigan, at the age of 95. Born on January 1, 1929, in Erchie, Provincia di Brindisi, Italy, Pietrina lived a life full of love, resilience, faith, and devotion to her family.
Pietrina met her beloved husband, Walter Noeske, during World War II, when he was a soldier stationed in Italy. He quickly fell in love with her, but war and distance kept them apart until Walter returned in 1946 to marry her and bring her to the United States as his war bride. At just 17 years old, Pietrina left the only home she had ever known, unable to speak a word of English and having never traveled beyond her small town. Yet, she embraced her new life with courage and determination, managing their household in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and building a foundation of love and strength for her growing family.
Pietrina was the most beloved wife to Walter, mother of Carl (deceased 1947), Anna, Walter (Denise Mitcham) and Natalie (Adam Szatkowski). Grandmother to Elisa Noeske, Michael (Bismah Basharat) and Rebecca Noeske and Maria (Michael) Pearlman and Gabriella Szatkowski. Recently she also gained the title of great grandmother to Nicolo Noeske. She was also a most loved "Grandma" to countless children and adults who were blessed by her nurturing presence.
An incredible cook, Pietrina poured her heart into every dish, taking immense pride in her craft. The simplest dishes tasted extraordinary thanks to her. She was also an avid gardener, with a gift for cultivating life from even the smallest of clippings-a talent she extended not just to her garden but to the lives she touched. In her later years, she surprised her family by becoming an enthusiastic Detroit Lions fan.
Despite growing up amidst the hardships of World War II and ending school after 5th grade, Pietrina's strength and wisdom were unmatched. She learned English, built a life alongside Walter, and ran their home with grace and determination. Her greatest pride was seeing her children and grandchildren achieve advanced degrees, a testament to her sacrifices and steadfast support.
Pietrina was preceded in death by all 15 of her siblings, her husband Walter in 1996, and her firstborn son, Carl, in 1947.
Pietrina will be remembered for her kindness, her wisdom, and the immeasurable love she gave to all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
