Polly was born on March 17, 1936, in Monroe, Louisiana and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 19, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Mrs. Gilbert was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. Polly had a dream of becoming a nurse and had received a scholarship to attend Nursing school at Northwestern State University, but she turned it down to marry her high school sweetheart, Corbet Gilbert. Because of her desire to help people and her love of all things medical, she achieved that dream after all her children reached school age. Up until her last days, she enjoyed talking about her nursing career and all her experiences helping people. Her grandchildren were her life and she most enjoyed spending time with them, watching them all grow and become Christian men and women. Polly was a devoted member of Whites Ferry Road Church. She loved the Lord and took advantage of any opportunity to witness. She also loved sports and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in them.
Proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, Corbet Gilbert; her parents, Cecil and Pauline Stone; and her grandparents, Alf and Mary Nowlin.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pat Watson (David), Connie Kerrigan (Mike), and Sandy O’Neal (Tim). Her grandchildren, Kristy Slavant (Troy), Angie Raley (Jason), Gilbert Kerrigan (Kate), Ronny Savage (Kirsten), Randy Kerrigan and Ty O’Neal (Maci). Great grandchildren: Raymond Scott, Bianca Scott, Max Raley (Jordyn), Cole Kerrigan, Beau Kerrigan, Elliott Savage, Thatcher Savage, Jules Kerrigan, and Ryker Savage.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Savage, Jason Raley, Don Skinner, Richard Anderson, Keith Powell and Scott Bailey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ty O’Neal, Jim Norris, Paul Coburn, Craig Pate, and Wayne Cranford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS foundation.
