Priscilla Kendrick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Chapel - Trenton on Aug. 20, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Priscilla "Nana" Kendrick, daughter of the late Frank Sykes and Janie Barnes Williams, was born on March 8, 1942 in Ocilla, Georgia. She attended elementary school in Mystic, GA and high school in Ocilla, GA. Although she left high school in the 11th grade, she proudly received her high school diploma at the Essex County College of Newark in New Jersey in 1977.

Priscilla was affectionately known for her love of singing. This was evidenced by her being a member of the Young Gospel Singers while in Mystic, GA, the Essex County Community Choir in Newark, NJ, the Angelaires of Philadelphia, PA, and the group founded by her son, Brian, the Southern Gospel Singers of Trenton, NJ. Priscilla wasn't shy about striking up a cord wherever and whenever the mood struck her. For the last few months, just about every day, you could hear her singing the gospel song, "I Got My Ticket."

Priscilla was a faithful member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Combined Choir. There are songs that folks can still hear her singing like: "Answer Me", "Ride This Train", "I Love to Praise Him", "Every Day is a Day of Thanksgivin", and the all-time favorite "I Can't Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand".

Priscilla peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at her home. She was predeceased by her brothers: Ezekiel Slacks, John A. Williams, and James A. Williams; and sister, Julia Mae Gainer Marshall.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her three children, David J. Williams (Browyn), Ronald Kendrick, and Brian K. Kendrick Sr. (Varonda); 12 grandchildren: Briana Kendrick, Brian Kendrick Jr., twins - Quashawn & Quashawana Kendrick, Issaiah Chavis, twins - Maurice & Marquise Bessant, Brannon Kendrick, Kayla Kendrick, Tanijah Kendrick, Dyshawn Bessant, and Kristofer Ashe; three great grandchildren: Kristofer Ashe Jr, Malakai Ashe, and Brison Karter Kendrick; one sister, Van Esther Crumedy of Cleveland, Ohio, whom she loved dearly and spoke on the phone with as often as she could; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including one very special cousin, Rosa Lee Griffith; and a host of friends.
