R. Eric Gerhart, 73, of Haycock Township, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, September 9th. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family, dedication to his work, and a passion for the outdoors that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Born in Sellersville, PA, Eric was the son of the late Richard and Helene (Reiff) Gerhart. He was a proud graduate of Souderton High School in the class of 1968 and continued his educational journey at Lehigh University, earning a degree in mechanical engineering, excelling both academically and athletically as a soccer player, graduating in 1972.
Eric's professional journey was one marked by loyalty and commitment. For an astounding 55 years, he was an esteemed member of the family business, BKG Co., and Walter R. Dorn Estate Inc., in Telford, where he valued each employee for their continued commitment to the company, while creating meaningful relationships with colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Eric was a man of many passions and interests. He was a member of the Indian Valley Country Club, where he found joy in the company of friends and family while pursuing his love for golf. His outdoor pursuits knew no bounds - from mowing the fields to splitting wood, skiing the slopes of Vermont, casting his line in the lakes of Canada, embarking on deep-sea fishing adventures in Avalon, NJ, and enjoying time in Clearfield County, PA during hunting season. Eric was also a dedicated member of Springfield Mennonite Church since 2004. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength, guidance, and a sense of community.
Eric's passions for life extended to the sports world, whether he was cheering for his favorite teams on TV or attending games in person. Above all, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, relishing every moment of family togetherness.
In addition to his wife Mary (Powis) Gerhart, he is survived by his son Benjamin Gerhart and his wife Jennifer and their two sons Jacob and Kyle of Coopersburg, PA, daughter Rebecca Gerhart of Quakertown, PA, son John Gerhart of Quakertown, PA, stepson Michael Landis and his wife Lindsay and their two daughters, Myla and Taylor of Center Valley, PA, a stepdaughter, Melanie Poley, and her husband Christopher and their children, Benson, Luca and Hallie all of Underhill, VT. Eric is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Cathy Gerhart of Sellersville and Jane Detweiler of FL, four brothers-in-law, George Powis of Richlandtown, PA, Jeffrey Powis and his wife Debbie of Telford, PA, Willie Powis and his wife Jennifer of Green Lane, PA, Mark Powis and his wife Shirley of Telford, PA and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven Gerhart and Jeffrey Gerhart.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Eric not for the tears we shed but for the laughter and love he brought into our lives. His memory will forever be etched in our heart and his quiet, yet witty spirit will continue to make us smile when we reflect upon his memory.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 24th, from 1:30 – 3:45 PM, at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, located at 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969. A funeral service will follow at 4 PM. Interment will be private in Zion Memorial Gardens, Telford PA.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Camp Men-O-Lan, located in Quakertown, PA, where four generations of Gerhart's attended summer camp, growing in the knowledge and love of Jesus.
