Rachel Grimes Obituary

Rachel graduated from McKinley Senior High School in 1970. She retired from the Hoover Company after 35 years of service. Rachel loved sports. She wrestled with her son and nephews and pinned them all. Dwight Howard was her Superman and LeBron James was her password.
Rachel married Joe Louis Grimes, Jr. and from this marriage she was blessed with Kenya Maria Grimes and Joe Louis Grimes, III. She loved spending time with her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. They were her joy.
Rachel confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, joining Antioch Baptist Church. She was active in the Youth Choir, Young Adult Choir, Breakthrough Choir, Sunday School, and the Missionary Guild where she taught the youth and drove the van to transport them to activities. She absolutely loved the Lord and worshiped Him. Her praise was demonstrated through her love of singing old Hymns and playing her tambourines. Following in her mother's footsteps, Rachel joined the International Order of Eastern Stars Adah Chapter #112 and served as Worthy Matron.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents; (6) sisters, Sallie Mae Gresham, Rachel Pauline Jones, Shirley Jeanette Scott, Barbara Jean Drain, Gaynell Lewis and Gwendolyn Ross Dungy; and (12) brothers, Charles Adkins, Sr., James Adkins, Sr., Lewis Adkins, Sr. Henry Adkins, Clarence Bullocks, Joseph Bullocks, William Ross, Glen Ross, John Ross, Jeffrey Ross, Henri Ross and Gerald Adkins, Sr.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memories her children, Kenya and Joe; (7) grandchildren: Charmika Grimes, Jaleel Grimes, Sade Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Jala Grimes, Markell Grimes and Kyhleel Grimes; (6) great grandchildren: Thomas Taylor, Austin Taylor, Aazariah Johnson, Ganyia Jones, Gavayia Jones and Da'Lour Johnson; her brothers, Franklin Adkins, Scott (Tamara) Adkins, Michael Ross and Percy Ross; her sisters, Chewsetta Leary, Rosetta (George) Adkins - Wilkins, Celia (Oscar) Parks, Lori Adkins and sister-in-love, Charlene Richards.
A celebration of life, officiated by Dr. Richard L. Jordan, will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 142 Arlington Ave. NW, Canton, Ohio 44708. Calling hours will be held one hour prior from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

My Prayers and Condolences goes out to the Grimes Family and Friends. My memories of Rachel was at The Hoover Company, she was a sweet and loving co-worker, we would gather at the back entrance of the Hoover Company in North Canton before our shift start. I remember this like it was yesterday.
Rest In Heaven my dear friend, love you!
