Rachel Kathryn Oettel

Rachel Kathryn Oettel, age 39, passed away on April 9, 2024, at her home in Lewes. She was born on June 30, 1984, at Beebe Hospital, the last baby delivered by Dr. Carey before his retirement several hours later. In honor of Rachel's birth and the physician's retirement, Rachel's mother and Dr. Carey were served a champagne toast to celebrate this wonderful occasion.
Rachel attended Cape Henlopen High School and Indian River High School. She had a natural talent for fashion, decorating, cosmetology, and making people laugh. She loved music, especially Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight", Crazy, I Fall to Pieces", and others. She never missed a showing of her favorite movie, "Gone With the Wind".
Rachel is survived by her father William (Bill) Oettel (Karen), mother Joan Hudson, sister Lauren Rooks (Howard), brother Robert J. Hill (Marcie), a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, their families, and a special niece, Adrianna Rooks. She will never be forgotten by her furry friends, Maggie and Willow.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Community Church of Oak Orchard, 32615, Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro. De. at 11am. In lieu of flowers, her family requests honoring Rachel's memory by making a donation to Brandywine Valley SPCA at 22918 Dupont Boulevard, Georgetown, De.
