Rachel Gambrell Spoon, 97, of Laurens, and wife of the late Raymond Samuel Spoon, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center.
Born in Laurens on September 6, 1927, she was the daughter of Robert Edward and Canie Nelson Gambrell. Rachel retired from many years as a secretary at Laurens Glass. A member of the First Baptist Church of Laurens, Rachel was actively involved in the Steele Bible Sunday School class, where she formed lifelong friendships and shared her deep faith with others. She enjoyed participating in the CWA (Comfortable with Age) group at First Baptist, where she found joy and companionship in her later years. Above all, she loved her family and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Tana Adams, Sam Spoon, and Lisa Rawson; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Steve Spoon; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 1,2025 at Highland Home Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Tim Marsh and Rev. Phil Hall.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lutheran Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to Rachel in her final years.
