Rachelle Jean Schafer

Rachelle Jean Schafer, 51, of Peru, Indiana, entered into her Heavenly home, peacefully at 7:00 pm, Monday, November 17, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 10, 1974, in Peru, Indiana, to Gerald Ray and Claudia Jean (Milholland) Dunica.
Rachelle was a 1992 graduate of Peru High School and received her Associate Degree from Ivy Tech. She married Charles "Chuck" Schafer at the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ in Wabash on August 22, 2020. Rachelle worked as a Realtor for Julie Allen Realty in Peru, and also as the Community Manager at Chase Crossing Apartments in Logansport, Indiana. She was an active member at Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, serving on the Worship Team and the sound crew. She also belonged to the Indiana Realtors Association and the National Association of Realtors. Rachelle enjoyed decorating, working in her landscaping and flowers, traveling with Chuck, and above all else loved her granddaughters, kids and her family.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Schafer of Peru; two children, Nicholas Johnson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Haley (Clay) Souerdike of Cutler, Indiana; twin granddaughters, Mara and Ally Souerdike, both of Cutler; and her parents, Gerald Ray and Claudia Jean Dunica of Peru. She was preceded in death by her brother, Derek Dunica who died in 1979.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, 2147 N. State Road 15, Wabash, with Joel Cogdell officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Visitation for family and friends will be 3- 7 pm Friday, November 21, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash and from 9:30 - 10:30 am Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorial is City of Hope in Zion, Illinois.
