In Loving Memory of Rae Marie Koenig
Rae Marie Koenig passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025.
Originally from Blasdell, NY, Rae had been a resident of Shrewsbury, MA since 1986.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Koenig; her biological father, Arno Bodenstedt; her adoptive father, Rev. Albert Schofer; her mother, Lettie Schofer; and her brothers, Glen Schofer and William Bodenstedt.
Rae is survived by her two children: Jay Koenig and his wife Tifeny, Jodi Colby; her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Colby; three siblings: Karen Abel, Ellen Fulmer (Bill), and Alvin Schofer (Kathy); her sister-in-law, Beverly Schofer; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Rae attended Fredonia State University. In her early years, she enjoyed traveling and sailing with her husband Rick. After moving to Massachusetts in the mid-1980s, Rae held many roles within the Shrewsbury school system. One unofficial title she carried was "boss" in the special education department. She retired in 2008.
In retirement, Rae cherished lunches with former coworkers, reading, and knitting slippers-until her fingers could no longer knit. She adored her granddaughter and her granddaughter's pets, sharing photos with everyone she met. Rae was known for her sassy spirit and kind heart.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a period of visitation at the Chiampa Funeral Home, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury on Saturday, November 22nd, from 11:30 am & 12:00 PM. Funeral service will follow. Inurnment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
