Ralph V. Schmidt, of Roseland, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 23, 2025.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial visitation on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from to 1-4 PM at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM in the funeral home.

Born in Newark, Ralph grew up in Montclair before marrying and settling in Roseland in 1987. He began his career as an electrician at Mountainside Hospital and later worked for Liberty Travel, where he was the primary electrical contractor overseeing the northeastern region from Boston to the Carolinas. For the past 15 years, he worked proudly as a member of Local Union No. 3 in New York City. During his time there, he was integral in major projects, including the installation of electrical systems in the Oculus and World Trade Center, accomplishments he took great pride in. Alongside his union work, Ralph also ran his own business, Schmidt Electric, which he maintained throughout his career.

As a child, Ralph enjoyed summer vacations at Lake George, a tradition he lovingly carried on with his family throughout his life. He was a man who cherished the comfort of tradition and routine. Every morning, he took a slow drive around the neighborhood down Cortlandt and Park Streets to catch up with neighbors before heading to Manhattan Bagel, where he ordered "the usual" 2 bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches.

At home, Ralph could fix just about anything. He was more than an electrician, he was also a skilled carpenter, plumber, mechanic, and the family's official handyman. He took great pride in working on his home on Cortlandt Street, lovingly restoring the antique woodwork to its original beauty and always finding joy in working with his hands. When not busy with projects, Ralph enjoyed relaxing on his back deck, watching his favorite television shows including NCIS and Jeopardy, and spending time with his family.

Ralph will be remembered for his caring heart, big smile, and great laugh. He was always willing to help anyone in need and was deeply devoted to his family, sharing a special bond with his beloved golden retriever, Toby. Above all, he cherished and adored his two children, Natalie and Stephen, taking every opportunity to express how unbelievably proud he was of them.

He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Gerda Schmidt. Surviving are his devoted wife, Marjorie A. (Sands) Schmidt; his cherished children, Natalie Schmidt and Stephen Schmidt (Kristen); his brother, Axel Schmidt; his sister, Lauri Schmidt; and his faithful golden retriever, Toby.
