Ray Nathaniel “Baby Ray” Hunt, Jr., a lifelong resident in the community of Omega, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 21, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on June 7, 1941, in Omega, Georgia, and built a life that was marked by public service, dedication, and a love for his family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at Maple Street Church of Omega with his cousin, Thomas Hunt and Rev. Chris House officiating. Interment will follow at Omega City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 2:45 P.M. at the church before the service.

Ray Pharr, Chad Castleberry, Shawn Castleberry, Taylor Mothershed, Bo Rodgers and John Tullo will serve as pallbearers.

Ray graduated from Omega High School and went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from South Georgia State College. After completing his education, he began his career as a Georgia State Revenue Agent before establishing Ray Hunt Enterprises, where he remained self-employed from 1981 to 2015. His commitment to his community was evident through his service as a council member for the City of Omega from July 1994 to May 1997, followed by his tenure as Mayor from May 1997 until December 2023. Additionally, Ray served his community as a volunteer fireman for the Omega Fire Department for an impressive twenty-five years.

Ray nurtured his interests in reading westerns, hunting, fishing, enjoying time at the beach and watching westerns on tv. He was also a fervent fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and delighted in playing golf on occasion. In every aspect of his life, he was known for being easygoing and well liked within his community.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifteen years, Louise Spires Hunt; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristie and Robert Bryan of TyTy; his grandchildren, Amanda and Bobby Blanchard, and Ray and Kayleigh Pharr; his great-grandchildren, Kristina Mothershed, Taylor Mothershed, and Elena Jo Pharr; his sister, Susan Hunt Page of Braselton; step-son, Brian and Hannah Wright of Omega; and three step-grandchildren, Athena Phillips, Angela Phillips, and Avery Wright, who he loved like his own grandchild.

Mr. Hunt was predeceased by his first wife, Laura Jo Shannon Hunt; his father, Ray Nathaniel Hunt, Sr.; and his mother, Catherine "Cat" Bishop Hunt.
