I had the pleasure of meeting Ray through Ryan and Erin. Ray brought warmth, kindness, and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor to every holiday celebration and gathering that he attended. It was always a delight to share those family times with such a genuine and graceful man.

Whenever Erin and Ryan invited us up for a cookout, a ballgame or a party, it always made us smile when Erin said "Mr. Ray is coming". It would mean philosophizing over snacks at the kitchen counter, thinking no one was looking when he stole chocolate from the candy bowls, grousing about the Orioles game even when they won big "...yeah but whats-his-name shouldn't have walked that guy..."
A conversation between Ryan and his Dad when Ryan would finally say "Put your hearing aids in!..." A sly irascible twinkle and Ray would say "What...? Let the hearings begin...What hearings....?"
Ryan looking up at the ceiling and laughing out loud "Oh my God..."
I used to imagine Ray as the voice of Alexa.
"Alexa what´s the weather today"?
"What´d you say-? - wear a sweater today...? Why is it supposed to get cold...?"
"Grampy! Grampy!". Cala and Louie always with hugs when he came in the door - lots of times carrying an armful of stuff he was clearing out. Most of which I thought was pretty cool.
My favorite story as told to me is the one where he´s with some of the boys and he says
"What was that guy´s name on Gilligan´s Island?"
"You mean the Skipper?"
"No..."
"The Professor?"
"No -.... the other one....."
"Mr Howell....?"
"No - not him..."
"Gilligan?!"
"Yeah - him."
So classic Ray.
A rascally teaser with a great sense of humor.
A loving, caring Dad - who I thought - made being a Dad look easy.
A tousled loving rumpled Grampy.
A generous, thoughtful friend.
Maud and I loved him and are really going to miss him.
