Raymond Loring Sherman, 88 of Longmeadow, MA and Charlestown, RI died on December 13 with his loving family around him. Born October 27, 1931, he was the son of Raymond and Sarah Sherman, and grew up alongside his loving sister Eleanor in Norwich, CT. Ray attended Norwich Free Academy and the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1954 and obtaining his Master's degree in Business Administration in 1972. He was active for many years serving in the US Navy and Reserves, ascending to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He worked in government procurement most of his career working for Sikorsky Aircraft, Perkin Elmer and Kollmorgen Corporation. Ray enjoyed his family, his boat, a cold beer, the RI shore, UConn Husky basketball, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ray spent many winter months in Vero Beach, FL so he could provide personnel input to Dodger management during spring training. Ray's wife of 43 years, Valerie, predeceased him in 1998. Ray leaves behind four children. Jennifer and her husband Sam and their 2 children Emily and Ryan from Marietta GA, Jeffrey and his wife Susan and their 3 children Matthew, Kelly & Nicole from Prospect, CT, David and his wife Astri and their 2 children Erik & Alexander from Longmeadow, MA and Michael and his wife Kristen and their 2 children Jack & Brett from West Simsbury, CT There will be a private ceremony for the immediate family at the cemetery in Old Quaker Hill, CT. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to The American Heart Association or the National Military Family Association.
