Funeral Services for Raymond O’Neal Walters, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 25, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Pastor Dustin Land officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 1: 00 P.M. until the time of service on Thursday.
Raymond was born March 9, 1934, in Baskin, LA, to Homer and Alpha Walters and passed away January 19, 2024, at the Farmerville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Farmerville, LA.
Raymond married the love of his life, Iris Joyce Walters on June 26, 1953, in Leesville, LA. He worked for Georgia Pacific before he retired after 42 years of service. He also owned and operated J & R Stump Service. Raymond found joy in not only car racing but horse racing as well. He enjoyed visiting the casino. Raymond also appreciated an occasional day of fishing, however, he had a passion for hunting. While he had many joys, passions, and hobbies, nothing came close to the love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Alpha Walters; his wife, Iris Joyce Walters, and his son, Stephen O’Neal Walters.
He is survived by his daughter, Tina and Scott Winters of West Monroe, LA; his grandchildren, Champion Walters of Ft. Myers, FL, Toi and Eric Nichols of Ft. Myers, FL, Christian and Amelia Simon of West Monroe, LA, and Courtney and Christien Crain of West Monroe, LA; great grandchildren, Easton Leland Nichols of Ft. Myers, FL, Walker James Simon of West Monroe, LA, Kennedy Claire Simon of West Monroe, LA, and Destiny Walters of Ft. Myers, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Eric Nichols, Christien Crain, Christian Simon, Darrell Simon, and Scott Winters.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Farmerville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center as well as the staff at Elara Care Hospice for their compassion and the special care they gave to Neal during his brief illness.
