Rebecca Lynne Laughton, 68, of Midland, was called home to Heaven on September 11, 2025. She was born in Midland on December 8, 1956, to the late Peter and Esmé (Swan) Gehoski. Rebecca married the love of her life, Charles John Laughton, on March 29, 1980. As best friends and soulmates, they built a beautiful family, traveled, thrifted, playfully picked on each other, laughed, and took great care of everyone - especially each other - for 45 years.
Rebecca's greatest joy was her family, and she poured her love into every part of their lives. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating delicate needlepoint and crochet pieces, hand-making treasured quilts, and knitting with both patience and skill. She also shared her talents by lovingly altering bridal gowns. Beyond her artistry, she delighted in life's simple pleasures - camping trips up north with family, afternoons spent thrifting, annual trips to Frankenmuth, and marathon Christmas cookie-baking weekends known as "Cookie-Palooza." Everyone she met was touched by her devotion, her playfulness, and her gift for making others feel cared for.
Rebecca is cherished and incredibly missed by her husband, Charles Laughton; her daughter, Amber (Chris Stinson) Bailey; and her beloved grandchildren: Damon (Dani Bezemek) Bailey, Cole (Jordan) Stinson, Esmé (Michael Gillespie) Bailey, and Caedynce (Dawson Jordan) Bailey. Rebecca was affectionately known as "Granny Tanny" by her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Michael Gehoski, Rosemary (William) Bonadies, brother-in-law Jerry Yascolt, Debbie (Dale) Miller, and Jane (Jeff) Mitchell. She was escorted from this earth to the pearly gates of Heaven by her parents, Peter and Esmé Gehoski; and was greeted there by her siblings, Christine Yascolt and Mark Gehoski, as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on September 17, 2025, at Smith-Miner Funeral Home with Pastor Don Duford officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. A graveside service will take place the following day at 11:00 am at Midland City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Rebecca are invited to perform an act of kindness for a loved one, or a stranger, carrying forward the devotion she so freely gave to her family and friends.
