Ricardo Juan Balbuena

Ricardo Juan Balbuena, known to many as Rick West, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025 in Morgantown, West Virginia, the place he lovingly called home for over two decades. Born June 8, 1954 in Washington, D.C., Ricardo spent his early years visiting Morgantown and spending summers with family – experiences that left a lasting imprint on his heart.

Ricardo lived and worked for many years in California, where he was a professional bartender and Las Brisas and Laguna Hills. His charm, warmth, and professionalism made him a beloved figure among patrons and colleagues.

Upon returning to Morgantown more than 20 years ago, Ricardo embraced a new chapter in life and introduced the world to his stage persona, Rick West. Music had always been a deep passion for him – he had been singing, DJing, and creating music long before his return. In Morgantown, that passion blossomed. Rick became a cherished entertainer and friend to many, especially at Novichenk’s Pub, where he worked for years. His performances and presence brought joy to countless customers and fans, and he found a second family in the pubs owners and staff.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Pablo Balbuena, his mother, Wanda (Welch) Balbuena, numerous aunts and uncles, and his ever-loyal canine companion, Shiloh.

He is survived by his two sisters, Clavilina Carmen DeLawder and Debborah Marko Hishmeh, both of Morgantown; a close cousin, David Welch; a niece, Nichole Marko; and nephew, Aaron Marko.

A celebration to honor Rick’s life, his music, and the love he shared with so many, will be held Friday, November 7th at 12PM at Novichenk's Pub, 1494 Cheat Rd., Morgantown. More details will be updated at https://www.facebook.com/share/17Dk5ukKH3/
