Richard Allen Bouthillette, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on February 15, 2024. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on December 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Raymond E. & Theresa (Fournier) Bouthillette, Sr.
Rick grew up in Springfield where he attended Catholic schools with his five siblings. Following graduation from Cathedral High School in 1965, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served three tours of duty during the Vietnam Era and received three purple hearts for his commendable action and bravery.
Rick was a man who would give you the shirt off his back and loved his family dearly. If you ever wanted to have a beer or shoot pool with him, you could find him at his favorite spot, The American Legion, Post 452, where you would listen to stories of his children and grandchildren and hear how proud he was. When he told stories of his children, and especially his grandchildren, a sun-sized smile would come across his face.
Rick leaves his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy (Oettlin) Piela, daughters, Kathlean Carlos and Maureen Streit (Eric), stepchildren, Andrea Florence (Daniel) and Jeffrey Piela (Michael Capuzzi), and sisters, Ruth Cleavall (David) and Joanne Smith (Matthew). Rick, aka Gramps, also leaves his beloved grandchildren Nolan, Ella, Madeline, Sophia, Ava, and Ian.
Rick was predeceased by his son, Richard, sister, ElaineM. Sullivan, and brothers, William D. Bouthillette and Aaron Michaels.
The family would like to thank Bobby Jo, his health care nurse and friend for the unbelievable care, compassion and friendship she showed to Ricky and the entire family. Her dedication and excellent care were such a comfort to everyone during such a difficult time. She was the rainbow to our familys long days.
The family would also like to thank all of the nurses, especially Julie, and doctors from Baystate Hospice for their attentive care.
Ricks committal service with military honors will be held Thursday, February 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. All are welcome.
