Richard "Rich" Kenneth Broll, 88, of Aurora, IL, formerly of Chicago, was called home on June 28, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1936, in Chicago to Gary Broll and Ethel Alvine nee Wittmann.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Marilyn Elizabeth nee Modder, who he married on July 25, 1959, at Immanuel Reformed Church in Chicago. Their love story began when they were introduced by the operator in the elevator at People's Gas, where they both worked. He will be greatly missed. His children include Mike (Lisa) Broll and Nanci Dennison, as well as adored grandchildren Ryan, Megan, Jacob, Benjamin and Hailey.
Rich was preceded in passing by his parents and his sister Barbara Ann Modder.
Rich grew up in Chicago IL and attended Lake View High School in Chicago, class of 1954. During this time, he was part of both his high school and church's basketball team and won the City wide championship. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree during night school from DePaul University in February 1968. Rich worked in management as an accountant for Peoples Gas. He retired in June of 1997 after 42 years working for the same company.
Rich was elected to the Leyden Township School Board in 1978 and served until 1997. Part of that time he also served as the president of the Board.
Rich served in the Army Reserve for six years and attained the rank of Sargent. He was very proud of serving his country.
Rich had a strong faith and was a member of Westwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elmwood Park where he served as Financial Secretary as well as volunteering in many different capacities around the church. Later in life he joined the congregations of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Park Ridge and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Naperville.
Family time was most important to Rich and he enjoyed riding roller coasters at Disney World or relaxing in Delavan, Wisconsin with Marilyn and the rest of the family.
He was an avid fisherman and looked forward to the annual family trip to Park Rapids, Minnesota where he taught his children and grandkids the joy of fishing for bass and walleye. He also enjoyed bowling in his leisure time.
Having grown up nearby, Rich was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and was extremely thankful that he lived to see them win the world series in 2016.
In lieu of flowers donations in Rich's name to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/¸would be appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Saturday July 20th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a Celebration Of Life Service at 12:00 PM at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran, 815 S Washington St, Naperville, IL 60540. The entombment will take place at Mount Emblem Cemetery with immediate family present.

We knew Rich and Marilyn for over 40 years. We were great friends and spent a lot of time with them; even travelled a few times. He was a lot of fun to be with and will be missed by many people. With sympathies to the family, Gary and Judith Dudlicek
