Richard C. O'Reilly Jr. was born on January 12, 1950 and passed away on 7-26-23 in Fort Collins, CO after a lengthy battle with several chronic conditions. Rich was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Patricia Enenbach. He is survived by his wife Betty, sons: Dylan (Sarah), Logan (Meag-gan) and Brendan. Grandchildren: Taylor, R.J., Maya and Leo and his siblings Tom, Mary Zagozda & John.
Rich was born on January 12, 1950 in Carmel, CA to Richard C. O'Reilly Sr. & Naydene Hensley-O'Reilly. The family moved several times when Rich was a young child, but his fondest memories were in Santa Cruz, CA. Then when he was 12, the family moved to Omaha Nebraska. His love for California moved him back to live with extended family, and at 16 years old he decided to move to downtown LA. Years later he attended University of California, Santa Barbara but eventually moved to Mammoth Mountain CA and enjoyed skiing, working construction and had a towing company. In 1976 Rich moved to Colorado, landing in Grand Junction where he started a business as an Insurance Broker/Financial planner (Sun Financial). He met his wife Betty and they married in 1980. They moved to the Eastern Slope of Colorado and landed in Pinewood Springs, near Estes Park where they raised their three boys Dylan, Logan & Brendan. In 2000 they moved out of the mountains to Windsor CO, and 2004 they planted roots in Greeley Colorado.
Rich enjoyed watching most sports and loved skiing, playing tennis, basketball and golf. He had a passion for music; he found a creative outlet playing his guitar, listening to music was therapeutic for him, and sharing it with family & friends was connecting. Coaching his sons baseball teams and watching them play all sports also was a joyous time for Rich. He enthusiastically turned the family into extreme Rockies fans when he purchased season tickets for the inaugural year. They attended many games annually and sold the rest, at cost, to friends sharing the enjoyment of the game. He enjoyed hosting CU Football parties, Bronco parties and BBQs for all. Rich took pride in providing exceptional service to all of his clients and that, helped create his success in the insurance and financial industry. His achievements as a top producer took him and Betty on travels near and far. He was also proud of being a successful pro-se litigator in several law cases, and was trying to develop one before his passing. A quote from a good friend after Rich's passing, "They are lawyering up at the pearly gates. They're going to lose. He's going in".
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on October 7th from 3pm-6pm. This will be a VERY informal gathering with conversation, music, snacks and drinks. There will be bag pipes before and on conclusion. You are more than welcome to stay longer if you chose. If you are planning on attending please email [email protected] or call 970-330-3707 for further details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Special Olympics in Rich's honor.
