Richard Dean "Hook" Christie was born June 3, 1950, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Sunday and Zella Mae (Downing) Christie. He departed this life on Thursday, August 14, 2025, in Salina, Oklahoma, at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 11 days.
A lifelong resident of the Peggs area. Richard graduated from Sequoyah High School in Tahlequah with the Class of 1968. He went on to attend Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, Kansas, where he played football. Throughout his life, Richard worked as a welder, traveling wherever the jobs would take him.
Richard was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Locust Grove. Many knew him by his nickname, "Hook," and will remember him for his ornery spirit, his sense of humor, and his caring nature. He loved the game of golf - playing it, watching it, and likely dreaming about it. He was a dedicated OU Sooners fan, especially when it came to football.
Westerns, hunting, and fishing were also among Richard's favorite pastimes. Each month, he looked forward to gathering with his high school buddies at his favorite spot, the Golden Corral. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by: 1 son: Lawrence Christie and wife Rosemary Diann of Checotah, Oklahoma; 1 daughter: Lari Barnoski and Jon of Muskogee, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren: Robert Christie and wife Courtney, Sheyenne Boyd and husband Nate, Leah Christie, Joseph Christie and wife DaVanna, and Jasmine Christie; 2 great grandsons: Jase "L.J." Christie and Dexter Christie; 2 great granddaughters: Juliet Boyd and Saylor Christie; "Man's Best Friend", his dog: Diamond; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Richard was preceded in death by a baby grandson; a great-grandchild; five brothers, Tom Christie, Charles "Watt" Christie, Paul Christie, Anthony Christie, and William Christie; and two sisters, Rachel Best and Sandra McClain.
A visitation will be held Monday, August 18, 2025, at Locust Grove Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel with Brother L. B. Wildcat officiating. Cremation services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home. Memories, condolences, and tributes may be shared at www.locustgrovefuneralhome.com.
