Richard Andrew Davey, known affectionately as Rick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 62 in his hometown of Topeka, KS after a brief battle with multiple myeloma. Rick's life was one marked by kindness, thoughtfulness, and selflessness - traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
On December 26, 1961, Rick was born to Margaret Ann Smith and Billy Jack Thompson. He was lovingly raised by his mother and adoptive father, Stephen Davey, after the passing of his biological father Billy Jack Thompson.
Rick graduated from Seaman High School in 1980 and went on to continue his education at Washburn University. While at Washburn, Rick played on the football team and was a proud member of the 1983 Championship Team.
On June 5, 1982, he married his junior-high school sweetheart Tamora J. Boerger and together they shared 42 wonderful years of marriage. Their marriage was a testament to love, commitment and they were blessed with two sons, Aaron and Adam.
Rick was a dedicated Master Electrician and worked for Lesser Electric, Inc. beginning in 1983 until he assumed ownership in 2013. His son Adam joined the company in 2015, and Rick enjoyed working alongside him. Rick's work ethic and dedication to his craft earned him not only respect in the industry but also lasting friendships with those with whom he worked.
Outside of his professional life, Rick had several hobbies and passions. While his sons were actively involved in sports, Rick stepped in and helped coach many of their teams. One of his biggest highlights was co-founding the Junior Vikings Wrestling Club. Rick also had a passion for flying, often enjoying taking to the skies with his son Aaron in their Piper Cherokee. Rick always looked forward to taking trips with his wife and close friends to the US/British Virgin Islands, where they enjoyed sailing the ocean and soaking up the sun.
Rick wore many hats throughout his life, but his favorite title was "Papa." Rick's true pride and joy were his three grandsons, Hampton, Hudson and Hayes, with whom he shared many adventures.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Jack Thompson, Margaret Ann Davey, and his adoptive father Stephen Davey.
Rick is survived by his wife, Tamora; his two sons, Aaron (Kayla) and Adam (Emily); his three grandsons, Hampton, Hudson and Hayes, all of Topeka, KS. Rick is also survived by two brothers, Randy Davey (Grace) of Topeka, KS, Rob Davey (Keri) of Olathe, KS, his in-laws Richard and Wauneta Boerger of Topeka, KS, and step-mother Ann Davey of Waco, TX. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, hard work and service will live on.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Ave, Topeka, KS 66603, on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 10:30 am. The family will receive family and friends following the service at The Brownstone, 4020 NW 25th St., Topeka, KS 66618. Cremation has taken place and Rick's ashes will be laid to rest in a private graveside burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested and payable to Washburn Athletics - Football Program Fund or Aviation Explorer Squadron 8. These donations can be mailed to Midwest Cremations, 525 SE 37th Street, Topeka KS 66605.

I remember Rick coming to work for us at Lesser Electric when he was a young man. He was a good worker, smart, friendly, and trainable! I may have met him even earlier than that as his mom and my husband, Bill Lesser, were Seaman Class of '60 mates and that class is quite social! Bill and Rick had mutual respect and enjoyed working together. Both lost way too soon. Deepest sympathies to Tam, sons, and families. We lost a good man in Rick.
