Richard Lee Gerardi of Winston Salem, NC, passed away on July 24, 2023 at Atrium Health Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. He had been in declining health for a few years, but death was unexpected.
He was born on 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Betty Albertine (Abby) Freeman for 55 years. He is survived by his wife and two children, Dawn Gerardi-Reid (Michael Reid) of Winston Salem and Anthony Gerardi (Carly Weisthal) of Winston Salem. Also, three grandchildren, Holden Gerardi, Carson Gerardi, and Isla Gerardi of Winston Salem. He is also survived by a brother, Frank Gerardi of Huntley, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Joseph Gerardi, and mother Eleanor Roddie, sisters Constance Gerardi Revak and Joann Gerardi, and brother, Joseph Pierre Gerardi.
Richard worked for various furniture companies over the years in upholstery, management, and sales for over 40 years. He enjoyed sales and the comradery with customers.
Richard was a proud veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving from 1964 to 1968. His wishes were to be cremated and buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. A service at the Veterans Cemetery will be Tuesday, August 15, at 1:00 pm.
A family visitation and memorial will be held on Saturday, July 29, at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Western Avenue Baptist Church. Memorials can be made to Western Avenue Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1206 Museum Road, Statesville, NC 28625, where he was a member for 36 years.
Richard lived in Statesville for over 50 years and moved to Winston Salem in 2022.
