Richard Guidry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Audubon Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Slidell on Dec. 4, 2025.
Richard Joseph Guidry, of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 85. His beloved wife, Dolores, welcomed him home on their 64th wedding anniversary.
Richard was born on November 19, 1940, in St. Martinville, Louisiana. His journey began as the adored son of the late Henry Albert Guidry and Clayda Thibodeaux Guidry. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family, including his brothers, Henry, Sidney, Ronnie, Neal, Keith, Mark, Stanley, and Renee Guidry, and his sisters, Janet Berard and Henrietta Guidry.
Richard was a graduate of Warren Easton High School, which laid the foundation of a life of perseverance and integrity. After high school, Richard embraced the life of a commercial fisherman, a career that allowed him to indulge in his love for the open waters. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to become the owner and operator of Efficient Rebore and Ring Service, where he was known for his meticulous work and commitment to excellence.
Richard's heart found its match with his wife, Dolores "LoLo" Guidry Together, they raised two daughters, Rebecca Guidry Dantone (fiancé, Michael J. Fernandez) and Cherie "CheChe" Marie Guidry. While both of their daughters had a special place in their hearts, Richard and LoLo devoted their lives to caring for Cherie, always determined to help her overcome her special needs with love and support. Richard was a proud grandfather to Mary Katherine Dantone (Damian) and a doting great-grandfather to Emily Alejandra Dantone and Christopher Carrington Russell. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom he loved greatly.
A man of many interests, Richard found joy in watching western movies, shrimping, and fishing. He cherished family functions and never missed an opportunity to Jitterbug with Dolores. Richard was quick to help anyone in the family in need. His love for his wife's family was profound, and he was a fixture at every family party, always ready to offer advice, solicited or not, with a warm smile and a generous heart.
Richard's legacy is one of boundless love, support, and the kind of wisdom that only a life well-lived can impart. His spirit will continue to guide us, like a lighthouse in the night, reminding us of the strength of family and the joy of a life shared with those we love. The Guidry Family extend their gratitude to Richard's soon to be son-in-law, Michael, who took great care of him, including three over-easy eggs for breakfast, which Richard looked forward to. Also special thanks to Ray McGill who was like a son to Richard and brought him so much love and joy into his life. They worked together on Ray's shrimp boat for hours, which he loved.
Richard's niece, Belinda Meyers, and great-niece, Samantha, loved cooking when they would visit to help care for Cherie. His nephew's wife, Dawn Snyder, and her family made his birthday in the hospital such a special day; as he told her that was the only time he had birthday decorations. The outpouring of love from family and friends was deeply felt and greatly appreciated.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral home is Slidell. A Funeral Mass will begin in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Richard will be laid to rest in Audubon Memorial Gardens Cemetery following service.
