Richard Morel Guthrie, Sr., 89, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Alamance County, he was born November 2, 1933 to the late Mitchell Morel Guthrie and Beatrice Stamey Guthrie Wyatt and was the husband of 27 years to the late Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Guthrie.
Richard was a member at Pleasant View Assembly of God. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Korea and was awarded five Battle Stars. He loved motorcycles, his dog “B.G.” and most of all his family.
Survivors include his sons, Ricky Guthrie and wife, Margaret of Burlington, Howard B. “H.B.” Terry and wife, Marcia of Burlington; daughters, Linda Kay Aday of Alabama and Gloria Reichert of Burlington; grandchildren, Jason Guthrie (Cassie), Brian Guthrie, Matthew Guthrie (Stacy), Laura Lee (Josh), Tyler Tharp, Bryton Somers, Haley Terry, Michael Stanley; great grandchildren, Leander Guthrie, Kayden Guthrie, Mason Fay,Vayu Guthrie, Paisley Guthrie, Sadie Guthrie, Ellie Guthrie, Maggie Guthrie, Kaydence Dean, Serenity Dean, Kingston Bigelow, Ethan Lee and Wyatt Lee; brothers, Mike Guthrie (Donna) and Oscar Guy Thomas; sister, Sheila Guthrie; numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companion and sidekick, “B.G.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; daughter, Bonnie Stanley; son, Chuck Tharp; brother, JB Stamey and daughter-in-law, Meena Guthrie.
A Service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Olin Tatum, Rev. Zachary Barnes and Rev. Gary Loftis. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at his home at 2242 Pinecroft Dr. in Burlington.
