Richard W. Mautner, age 83, of Greenport, NY died peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Stony Brook Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He will be remembered dearly by Marie Kilar Mautner, his wife of 53 years, and their four children, Caryn (Mazzarelli) and husband Tom, Jennifer (Denker) and husband Chris, William Mautner and wife Erin, and Elizabeth (Rivera) and husband Andre. He is also survived by ten grandchildren who absolutely adored him, as well as countless nieces and nephews who loved spending time with "Uncle Dick".
Born on Staten Island, NY in 1941, he became an Eagle Scout as a teenager, graduated from New Dorp High School and soon thereafter joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his nation in Vietnam. His time in the Navy inspired a love of travel which continued while he worked at Chase Manhattan Bank and Investcorp.
He and Marie married in 1971 and moved to Lynbrook, NY where they raised their family, surrounded by close friends throughout the neighborhood. Richard maintained his love of travel throughout his life, even moving with Marie and the kids to Tehran and Athens for a number of years, before returning to Lynbrook and eventually retiring to their beloved home on the shore in Greenport.
Richard will be remembered by those who knew him as a generous host, a heck of a Scrabble and Chess player, a great sailing companion, and the proud owner of one of the best heads of hair east of the Mississippi – something he cherished almost as much as his classic 1955 Chevy convertible.
Richard was predeceased by his parents William and Lucy Mautner and sister, Lucy Mautner (Kunkel).
