Richard "Scott" Messner, age 63, of Hartville passed away unexpectedly in his home on October 13, 2024, from complications surrounding a protracted illness. Scott was born on December 7, 1960, in Akron, Ohio to Richard Lee and Sandra Joanne (Kepnes) Messner.
A 1979 graduate of Field High School, Scott also attended Kent State University. Scott held a sales manager position at Seal Master Corporation in Kent, Ohio having worked for the company for 40 yrs. Scott enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hiker and loved nothing more than to spend a weekend on the trail with the love of his life, wife Lori Messner.
He was an avid history buff and an expert on the American Civil War having traveled many times to Antietam, Gettysburg and many other national landmarks from that era. Enthralled by the Civil War, Scott had once received a portrait of his favorite general, "Stonewall" Jackson. The General briefly held a place of honor above his fireplace until his wife, Lori, reluctantly overruled his enthusiasm!
Scott had a passion for martial arts having studied Kendo and Tai Chi for years eventually becoming an instructor in the discipline. He was also a collector of firearms and a member of a shooting club where he enjoyed honing his sharpshooter skills at the range.
Mostly however, Scott loved his family and spending weekends with his wife Lori, her children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his mother Sandra Messner, he is survived by his wife Lori; children Maria (Clayton) Saunders and Joseph (Brittany) Perretta; grandchildren Esme, Oran, and Calvin; siblings Kristen Messner (Anthony Catalano) and Todd (Denise) Messner; father Richard Lee Messner.
Cremation has taken place and private family service has been held. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a future date to be announced.

Scott was my boss. Every day he always had a positive outlook on life. Always a positive mindset. Seemed like at least once a day, we talked about out motorcycles. He had so much knowledge about so many things. Loved His stories he would tell about his and Lori's hiking adventures. It was so clear from his stories he and Lori were 2 peas in a pod. Prayers for Lori and his family. He will be missed.

Richard always had a smile for everyone at work. He was straightforward and kind to all. It was a privilege to know him as a friend.
