Debbie and Family- just found out the other day from Meghan that our longtime friend and your beloved husband and your childrens father has passed. It´s has been 35 years since we last got together with the two of you was at Xochimilco on the eve of my family moving to Florida. I write this with a heavy heart and I´m truly saddened by your loss.
Rick, as I affectionately new him was an absolutely amazing man! So positive, kind and passionate in the way he lived his life. He was the epitome of a great person! It´s was an absolute honor and a privilege to be friends with him and you back the late 70´s and the 80´s. It´s an understatement to say he will be missed. Thank you for lending support to my daughter during her mother´s final hours while in Hospice back in early November of 22. Now I get this news, it´s devastating! So sad, It´s definitely heartbreaking- stay strong.

Beyond his many accolades as scholar & physician, Dr Nowak was for me an exemplary story teller and wonderful human being... He retained his childlike curiosity over many decades... an inspiration to me in so many ways... He will be sorely missed. Prayers to his family and friends all over the world...

Remembering Richard fondly as a colleague in Emergency Medicine, from the early days. His research was truly good bench and clinical research that added so much to our Emergency Medicine practice.

Always loved getting report from Dr. Nowak . He was always respectful and acted in the best interest of the patient. I did some research with him when I worked the cardiac ICU as ER and CICU crossed paths many times. Dr. Nowak was a kind and compassionate MD. May your memories of his kindness comfort you. May he rest in peace and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Richard was one of the first 'legends' that I met early in my career as an emergency physician. I have always been impressed with his ability to communicate clearly, showing respect even when we didn't agree (which was rare). His contributions were truly legendary... to the field of emergency medicine, to the residents and faculty he taught and all of us who stood in his shadow. He will be missed.

Richard Nowak treated his ER team with respect and enthusiasm. Loved his educational stories.
The last time I saw him was at the Fisher Theater. He just flew in from Croatia and was so excited to share his amazing experiences. I couldn't wait for intermission to hear the rest of the story.
May the love of friends, family, co-workers and memorable stories carry the family through this difficult time.

I always loved talking to Rich at conferences- we would always get into talking about ACS, research and how things ought to be. He was always full of ideas and he was so encouraging of young investigators. Countless EM researchers have benefited from his counsel. He will be missed greatly by the academic community nationwide.

I am disheartened by the passing of Richard. I only knew him in my time in the HFH ED back in the time of 1979-1982. He was the epitome of an academic EM physician. Richard always looked at each case of what if we should do this or consider something else as a possibility. He was a caring physician and one who cared about doing things right. He had many a kind and considerate advice for me while we worked together. Richard had a great sense of humor and was a pleasure to work with when the chips were down. Im sorry we never kept in touch, but I will always remember the things he stood for. May he rest in peace.

Richard was a scholar and a gentleman. He never failed to offer assistance or interest in others' work when there was an opportunity to advance emergency medicine science or practice. He had a wicked sense of humor and never said an unkind word about anyone. He will be greatly missed.
