Richard Alan Palmer ObituaryRichard Alan Palmer, age 79, of Willoughby, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025. Born on February 12, 1946, in Cleveland, he was the beloved son of the late Norman and Molly Palmer.
Richard was the devoted husband of 38 years to Shelley D. Palmer (née Stevens), and the cherished father of Kristin A. (Nicholas) Waybrant. He was the loving brother of Marilyn Esposito, and brother-in-law of Sharon Wick and Sharlene (Dave) Miller. He was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Bob Esposito and Stanley Wick.
Richard retired from the Cleveland Board of Education, where he worked for many years as a skilled Photo Lab Technician. His lifelong appreciation for photography and all things mechanical led him to become an active member of the Cleveland Camera Collectors Club. Known for his endless curiosity and vast knowledge, Richard was truly a man who "knew everything about anything" - a walking Google in the best sense.
Not one to sit around after retirement, Richard worked at Western Reserve Historical Society and at Mentor Imports for 12 years where he continued his love of learning, and sharing his knowledge.
He had a kind and gentle heart, especially when it came to animals. Richard shared an unbreakable bond with his beloved dog, Diamond, his constant companion for 14 wonderful years. Together, they were rarely apart. He found great purpose in rescuing and caring for animals in need, always guided by compassion and quiet generosity.
A celebration to honor Richard's life will be Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the David E Anderson Willoughby Senior Center, 36939 Ridge Road, Willoughby, OH.
The family kindly suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Lake County Humane Society, reflecting his deep love for animals and his giving spirit.
