Richard Remi Pelland, 78, of Cotuit, passed away in Fort Myers, FL May 25, 2025. He was seeking treatment at the Florida Cancer Specialist and was unable to complete care as he died of CVA. He wanted to live and battle his illness. He talked about going to the Moose Lodge and shooting a game of pool and returning home to Cotuit to mow his lawn. He fought until the end like a true hero.
Richard was born on June 2, 1946 in Washington D.C. His father Raymond had just returned from WW2, serving in the Army. His mother, Charlotte worked as a clerk for the government in D.C. Richard was the oldest of four children. He will be greeted in Heaven by his parents Raymond Pelland, his mother Charlotte Noyes Pelland, his brother Robert Pelland (Boy), and his sisters Ruth Pelland Balcius and Mary Jane Pelland.
Richard graduated from Uxbridge High School where he played Varsity Football. He studied marketing for 3 years in college. Richard then joined the Air Force and served as a sergeant. He was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. While there he studied martial arts and learned to speak Japanese.
Most people know him as Rich and rich he was! He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, honor and success. His greatest accomplishment was being happily married for 52 years to his loving wife, Nancy Stefanik Pelland. They met in Uxbridge, MA and on the first date, Richard was sure that he wanted to marry her. Richard is now reunited with his wife Nancy in Heaven.
He was rich in family, having three daughters, Debbie Chamberlain, Robyn Parker and Karyn Lukas. 2 son-in laws, Michael Chamberlain and Jesse Lukas. 5 grandchildren, Kate Chamberlain, Mikey Chamberlain, Tyler Chamberlain, Lilly Lukas and Jesse Lukas, and great grand- daughter Kayla Lukas. Richard leaves behind a niece Lynn and a nephew Mark, aunts, uncles and cousins. Richard's legacy is his family and he was so very proud of all their successes, talents and good looks. Richard had a special bond with his grandson, Justin Parker. They enjoyed boating, fishing and golfing together. Richard and Justin are now together again in Heaven.
Richard and Nancy owned 2 business, Hi- Lo Package Store and Ventures Unlimited Travel Agency. He was a hard worker, raising a family and often had 2 jobs. He worked as a security guard at Cape Cod Hospital for 12 years. He loved his job with a deep affection for nurses.
Richard Pelland was rich in friends and was able to connect with everyone he met. He was thankful to have nice friends and neighbors where he lived in Cotuit, Fort Myers, Sutton and Uxbridge. He was a member of the Osterville Veterans Club (Foxhole). He joined the Foxhole pool league where the team won many trophies.
Richard was an animal and nature lover. He enjoyed watching the birds, looking for gators and patting anyone's dog. He considered his daughter's pets as grand pets and loved them all. Robyn's Siamese cat, Gerald was inseparable to his Pepe. Both sick and aging they comforted each other resting in the recliner. Now Rich can be with Gerald again in Heaven along with many pets, grand dogs, grand cats, fish, and chickens.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday June 11, 2025 at the Chapman Funeral & Cremations, John-Lawrence Chapel, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills, MA 02648. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Marstons Mills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Shriners Hospital would be appreciated.
