Richard F. "Dick" Rank
New Berlin – Richard F. "Dick" Rank passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. Dick was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on October 16, 1934, the sixth of ten children born to Frank and Irma (Stoffel) Rank. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1954, Dick served in the United States Army including a deployment in Germany from 1954 until 1957. After completing his military service, Dick attended DeVry University earning an engineering degree. He married Barbara A. Lesperance in 1959 and moved to New Berlin where he spent the remainder of his life. After Barbara's passing in 1980, he married Nancy J. Smith in 1985.
Dick loved his time spent with his many siblings, his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many extended relatives. Travel, camping, and fishing trips were his favorite activities with young Dan and Tom. He appreciated classic country music, the blues, and Irish folk music, enjoying concerts with friends and family. Canoe trips and group travel with his many lifelong friends were a highlight for Dick. He was also a lifelong member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church taking great interest in volunteer programs in the service of others. Dick spent the majority of his career as an engineer at the Louis Allis Company where he also created special friendships that continued throughout his years of retirement.
Dick is survived by his sons and spouses, Daniel and Madonna (Hlebain) Rank, Oak Creek; Thomas and Deborah (Haas) Rank, Big Bend; his daughters and spouses, Laura (Roger) Lawton, Waukesha; Bonnie (Gary) Halvorsen, Milwaukee, and son-in-law, Randy Haasch, West Allis; also survived by grandchildren Mandy (Jeff) Lawton, Willie (Karin) Lawton, Brittany (Ehab) Campbell, Brady J. Hlebain, Collin Rank, Barbara Rank, Anna Rank, and Dawson Rank. Dick is also survived by four beautiful great grandchildren, Jacob and Henry Lawton, and Adriana and Nolan Campbell. He is additionally survived by sister Eunice Coppola, West Sayville, NY, and brother Lloyd (Ruth) Rank, Oshkosh; also survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Rank, Brooks, OR, and Janice Rank, Lewiston, MI. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Irma Rank; his loving wife Barbara, his loving wife Nancy; son, David Whitehead; daughter, Karen (Stanley) Haasch; sisters, Norma Rusch, Elizabeth "Betty" Humphreys, Marcella Schettek; and brothers, Donald, Clarence, Paul, and Kenneth Rank. Also preceded in death are brothers-in-law, Vernon Rusch, Donald Schettl, Eli Humphreys, and Ray Schettek; and sisters-in-law DelRose Rank, Portland, OR, and Karen Rank, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 16000 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin, Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 PM., January 25, 2024.
Following visitation, a memorial mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Apostles Catholic Church. Inurnment will take place later at Holy Apostles Cemetery.
Memorials to Holy Apostles Catholic Church or the charity of your choice are greatly appreciated.
