Richard “Rick” E. Stanbrough, 77, a former resident of Connersville, Indianapolis, 40-year resident of Brownsburg and most recently a New Castle resident along with his wife for the past 10 years, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 at the Countryside Meadows in Avon, IN. He was born on December 24, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN a son of the late Byron Stanbrough and Naomi (White) Poe.
As a youth, Rick started out restoring and building Hot Rods and Muscle Cars; this grew to be a lifelong passion along with racing. He passed his passion for racing along to his children and never failed to assist them with their individual endeavors. Rick was well known in the Sprint Car field of racing. Rick was an owner/operator truck driver and spent 15 years driving a semi for John Deere and Company; for many of those years also owned Thrifty Muffler Shops in Avon and Plainfield.
Rick is survived by his wife, Julia Wilson-Stanbrough; children, Jon (Melinda) Stanbrough, Rick (Lisa) Stanbrough, Shantel (Tony) Cartwright, Jill (Kurt) Lindsey; grandchildren, Eberley, Garrett, Jerra, Allison, Xen, Dustin and Montana; siblings, Debbie Bougie, Carla Kay Poe Sheets, Jim Stanbrough, Jean Ann Murrell and Diane Townsend.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, June 2, 2025 at Lewisville Cemetery in Lewisville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Riley Children’s Foundation at RileyKids.org or PO Box 3356, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
