Richard Emory Tilley ObituaryRICHARD EMORY TILLEY, 77 of Street, MD, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, Delaware. Married in October 1977, he and his wife, Jeane (Webster) Tilley, just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary.
Born on August 13, 1947 in Churchville, MD, he was one of two sons born to the late Emory Filmore Tilley and Mary Elizabeth (Gunther) Tilley and a 1966 graduate of Bel Air High School. Rick proudly served his country for most of his lifetime beginning with enlisting with the United States Coast Guard following graduation. He served 4 years as a photographer's mate where he traveled to numerous countries including deployment in Iceland and Norway. In addition, he spent 4 years with the Maryland National Guard. In 1976, Rick was employed with Conrail as an assistant yard manager until 1982 when he became employed with NSA working at Ft. Meade, Maryland until he retired in 2007. Rick was truly dedicated to his country serving in many positions to preserve the America he loved.
Rick was a Civil War reenactor operating as a Confederate Line Signalman. He was an avid railroad enthusiast volunteering as a flagger and conductor with the Stewartstown Railroad Company in lower York County, PA. He enjoyed traveling, was known to have a dry sense of humor and was meticulous when mowing the yard. His family commented in his later years, he loved to go for a ride hoping each would end at Dairy Queen for an ice cream treat.

A brother, Dennis Tilley of Forest Hill, MD
Four godchildren-
Jim Hutchins, Cristina Franklin, Matthew Tarbert and Laura Tarbert.
Numerous extended family members are left to mourn as well.
Services will be held in Emory United Methodist Church, 911 Cherry Hill Road, Street, MD 21154 with two viewings on Monday, November 18 from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be in the church on Tuesday, the 19th beginning at 11 a.m. Military honors will be presented at the graveside by the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, his family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Emory UMC Church Memorial Fund at the above address.
