Richard Edgar Tillotson, 81, loving husband of Iris Tillotson, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Born in Greenville, SC, Richard was the son of the late Benjamin and Alice Tribble Tillotson. A 1962 graduate of Parker High School, he was a pillar of his community and a man who left a lasting legacy. Richard dedicated 29 years of service to Ryerson Tull Metals before his retirement.
He was a proud member of the Sam Poe Masonic Lodge 284. For the past 22 years, Richard was a dedicated member of Rock Springs Baptist Church, where he attended the Inspiration Sunday School class. Prior to that, he was an active member of Cox Chapel Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and director of the Training Union, helping guide and teach others about the ministry of the church.
Richard also made a significant impact as a retired member of the South Carolina Football Officials Association (SCFOA), an organization dedicated to promoting the positive development of youth through football. His love for Clemson football was unwavering, and he was a proud IPTAY supporter for 40 years.
Above all, Richard was a devoted family man. He was married to the love of his life, Iris, for 60 wonderful years. Richard was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, loved beyond compare. He embodied a strong work ethic, deep family values, and a steadfast faith that guided him throughout his life.
Richard's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, commitment, and faith will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by sons, Jeffrey Tillotson (Toni) and Brian Tillotson (Nina); brothers, Jewell Tillotson (Jo) and Fulton Tillotson; granddaughter, Emma Tillotson; grandson, Thomas Tillotson; and sister-in-law, Pat Tillotson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ben Tillotson, James Tillotson, Woodrow Tillotson, and Troy Tillotson; and sisters, Joyce Smith, Virgie Cherry, and Virginia Duncan.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 04, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
The family will accept all visitations at the church only, please respect the family's wishes.
