Richard E. Wasserman Jr., 70, of Green Springs (formerly of Fremont), passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, surrounded by his family.
He was born May 7, 1955, in Fremont, the son of Richard Sr. and Julia (Ledwedge) Wasserman. Rich was a 1973 Fremont St. Joseph High School graduate, where he excelled in football and wrestling. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 1973-1975. He married Teresa Wasserman on April 15, 1978, in Millersville, OH. Together they shared 47 years of marriage.
Rich worked at Foodtown in various positions and in the produce department at Bassett's Market in Port Clinton, OH where he retired in 2016. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, archery and trapping. He loved to be with his granddaughters whether fishing, target practice, working in the garden or being at the cabin. Rich will be remembered for his sense of humor and gift of storytelling, as well as his strong faith and work ethic.
He is survived by his wife Teresa; daughters Andrea (Andrew) Nagy and Sarah (Kris) Balde; grandchildren Abby Nagy, Alyssa Nagy, Ava Nagy, Kendall Balde and Kourtney Balde; brothers Kevin (Tammy) Wasserman, Old Fort and Jim (Kim) Wasserman, Michigan; sister Anne Borer, Fremont. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stephen Wasserman.
The family would like to give a very special thank you to all the friends and family that sent cards of encouragement, prayers or visited him during his journey. He truly enjoyed this time with each of you. Also, thank you to his medical teams from Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center in Sandusky, The Bellevue Hospital and Firelands Regional Medical Center and staff. A special thank you to Diane Stevenson from Guiding Hands who cared for him with such compassion.
At Rich's request, there will be no public viewing or visitation. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 550 Smith Rd, Fremont, OH, on Tuesday August 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Krzysztof Kardzis officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Fremont, OH, with military graveside rights performed by the V.F.W. and American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rich can be made to Christy's Corner Cafe, 368 Rice St., Elmore, OH; which was established to promote opportunities for individuals with special needs and strives to help individuals reach their goals.
