Rick Goins

Dr. Rick Goins, (Ricky Lee Goins) beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on March 31, 2023, at the age of 70 in Barrington IL at Journey Care Hospice Center. Rick was born on March 30, 1953, in Woodstock, Illinois, to his parents, Robert and Lois (Johnson) Goins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kelly Jo. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, (Evie), his three sons, Cody (Molly), Wyatt (Miranda) and Lucas, his two grandchildren, Eugene Goins and Violet Goins, his sister Debra Sue Varga, and nieces and nephews.
Rick always had a quick wit that often left his friends and family in amazement and laughter, yet loved deep conversations with others. He enjoyed reading medical textbooks or hi-fi, sci-fi books, didn't matter. In younger years, he had a talent for skiing, both on the water as a Salom water skier and on the snow. As a member of Woodstock Country Club, he enjoyed golfing and later snowmobiling as a member of the Wonder Lake Snowmobile Club and boating on Wonder Lake.
Rick had a talent for woodworking and Do-It-Yourself repairs, often spending hours creating, repurposing, remodeling and fixing things around the house. He and Evie loved to camp and he even built his own wooden teardrop trailer, which they named "Woody". He loved fishing, especially for walleye and most notably at Put-in-Bay, Ohio, or on Lake Erie. If he could not be fishing for real, he would be watching fishing, like his new favorite show, Wicked Tuna while enjoying his tasty Twinkies or chocolate.
Rick was a 1971 graduate of Woodstock High School, a Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brother at Western University and doctoral degree at Palmer College in Davenport. Professionally, Rick was a chiropractor for over 45 years, practicing alongside his father, and then on his own, as Goins Chiropractic in Woodstock, Illinois, his home town. He was a former member of the Illinois Chiropractic Bar Association and member of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce. He was known for his compassionate care and willingness to make house calls, night or day, to his patients. He was always grateful for the blessing of his receptionist, Peggie Klabunde, of 25 years. With his gentle manner and highly sensitive healing hands, he took great passion in helping others achieve their best health, and struggled these past years being on the other side of health care.
Rick was a man of faith raised protestant and converted to Catholicism after meeting his beloved wife, Evelyn "Evie" Svoboda. They married on December 29, 1979, at Christ the King Church, raised their family in the Catholic faith, served as a lector for 15 years and enjoyed the parish community. His faith allowed him to not be afraid of his mortal death.
His three sons, Cody, Wyatt and Lucas, will always remember him for the family man he was, driving them every morning to school throughout the years, their Indian Guides days, his red shoes, watching hours of Lord of the Rings, listening to Tom Waits or telling dad jokes. Due to his health issue, he said he was thankful to be at his sons' weddings, to see his son 's dream of living in Japan and to be a grandfather and to hold his grandchildren, Eugene Goins and Violet Goins.
His family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, gifts of time and listening, generosity and prayers.
