Bishop Rickey Edward McDonald Sr. entered into eternal rest on December 21, 2023, at McLeod Regional Hospital. He was born January 11, 1954, in Darlington County, South Carolina, a son of the late Ernest McDonald Sr., and Ruth Sutton McDonald. He spent his early years in Hartsville, SC, where he was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. He later moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina, to build a better life for his family.
Rickey received his CDL from the MTA School, in Greensboro, NC. He began driving for Bowman Trucking. He later moved to Newark, NJ, and started driving for Diajim Inc. Eventually he moved back to South Carolina and worked for Williams Trucking. Throughout his life, he also worked for Liberty Hospital, K&W Cafeteria, Rainbow Fertilizing Mill, and Sutton Well Drilling.
Rickey never met a stranger and loved socializing with family and friends. He also loved his Philadelphia Eagles! Rickey was always involved in church, all of his life. In his younger years, he attended Centerville A.M.E. Church, where he was ordained as
Minister, under Reverend Levern Harry. When Rickey later moved to North Carolina, he became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he was ordained as a Priest.
When Rickey moved back to South Carolina, he became a member of Tabernacle Holiness Church, where he was ordained, as an Elder, under Bishop Johnson. On August 18, 1999, he became a consecrated Bishop, under the late Bishop George Thomas. He spent most of his time teaching and preaching the Word of God. He touched countless lives in and out of the pulpit. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, two sisters, Beulah McDonald and Lucy McDonald Hawkins, and two brothers, Donald McDonald and Ernest McDonald Jr., and a goddaughter, Latabia McDonald.
He will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy: two daughters; Carlissia McDonald Brunson of Hartsville, SC, and Kenyetta McDonald of Savannah, GA; two sons, Pastor Rickey (Shamecca) McDonald Jr. of
Port Ewen, NY, and Jerrell McDonald of Hartsville, SC; four extended daughters, Mimiettalatrise Williams of Charlotte, NC, T'Nisha Dixon, and Oreonia Bruce, both of Hartsville, SC; and Yolanda Guyton of Savannah, GA; a brother, Danny (Mamie)
