Rickie Earl Smiley, age 68, passed from this life on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with mesothelioma. He was born on January 27, 1957, in Smithfield, North Carolina, to Roy Smiley, Jr. and Gwendolyn (Gurley) Smiley. He was a lover of life, known for his sense of humor and his gift for making every moment count. Rickie was dearly loved by family and friends alike, remembered for his selflessness and the way he made others feel valued and important.
In May of 1983, Rickie married the love of his life, Diana. Together, they shared 42 years of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories with their four children: Derek, Wendy, Amy, and Chad.
Rickie worked as a lift truck technician and was known for his ability to fix just about anything. His passions extended beyond work; he had a deep appreciation for motorcycles, old classic cars, and enjoyed boating, fishing, and roller skating. Rickie loved all genres of music and often played guitar with his family. Whether he was hosting a backyard barbecue, staying active, or lending a hand to others, Rickie’s greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Jr. and Gwendolyn Smiley; mother-in-law, Naomi Rhodes; and brothers-in-law, Billy Rhodes and Bill Wheeler II.
Rickie is survived by his beloved wife, Diana Smiley of Weatherford, Texas; son, Derek Smiley and wife, Jessica; daughter, Wendy Kauffman and husband, Lee Cameron; daughter, Amy Smiley; son, Chad Price; and seven grandchildren: Noah, Mackenzie, Emma, Shyanne, Tyler, Justus, and Izick.
