Ricky Cassedy August 15, 1949 – July 13, 2024
Ricky Cassedy, age 74, of Statesboro, GA passed away July 13, 2024 at Ogeechee Area Hospice surrounded by his family. Ricky was a lifelong resident of Bulloch County and graduated from Statesboro High School in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart and began his family, which he considered his greatest accomplishment and joy. Ricky & Holly joined Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church and were baptized together on December 2, 1982. Ricky was known for his quick wit and his delivery of a joke was legendary, leading to his nickname Tricky Ricky. His fast moves on the basketball court translated into his swift, decisive calls as a referee, always keeping the game fair and exciting. He loved the game of golf, fishing, hunting, and no Saturday in the fall was complete without the Georgia Bulldogs. Ricky was preceeded in death by his parents, Ben and Mrytice Cassedy; siblings, Bennie Earl, Tommy, Marvin, Raymond, Bonnie, and Randy Cassedy.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 53 years, Holly Harvey Cassedy; two daughters, Candace Smith (Chris), Carey Cassedy (Scott Hodgin); grandchildren, Madison Cassedy (Austin Haskin), Holly Moore (John), Hannah Clarke (Sam), Walt Smith, Ashton Smith; his favorite sisters-in-law, Linda Simmons, Pat Duke, and Jackie Booth. He is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews; family friends, Pam & Landrum Hodges and Jimmy Melton, and his tailgate crew.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Randy Waters officiating. There will be a private burial following the service.
A casual celebration of life will be held at 5:00 PM at the home of Carey Cassedy and Scott Hodgin. In true spirit and humor, attendees are encouraged to wear red and black (to the celebration of life) in honor of his beloved Bulldogs.
