It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ricky Lynn Ester Jr., also known as Ricky, born October 14, 1965, in Galveston, Texas, who left us on January 20, 2024. A beacon of light in the lives of those who knew him, Ricky was more than just a loving husband, father, and son-he was an adventurous soul who exuded compassion and dedication in every aspect of his life.
In the heart of Alvin, Texas, where he resided for 30 years, Ricky was a cornerstone of the community. As a thoughtful and dedicated journalist at the Galveston Daily News for three decades, he used his words to touch the hearts and minds of his readers. Ricky embodied the words of Ernest Hemingway: "There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed." His passion for storytelling was evident in each article he wrote, and his dedication to bringing truth and light to the public was unmatched. His adventurous spirit was not only reflected in his personal life, but also in his fearless pursuit of stories that mattered.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife Amelia, his cherished daughters Jessica and Sabrina, his dear son Michael Loveless, and his parents Ricky Sr. and Donna Ester. Their hearts, along with those of everyone who knew Ricky, are heavy with loss, but also filled with precious memories of a man who lived life fully, with a heart ripe with compassion and thoughtfulness.
Friends and loved ones are invited to remember Ricky at a viewing on Thursday, 25 Jan 2024 at 1:00pm CST at Carnes Funeral Home - CTC, located at 3100 Gulf Freeway, Texas City, Texas, 77591. We encourage all who knew Ricky to celebrate his life, not just mourn his passing. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Ricky on his memorial page. Let us remember Ricky for the adventurous, compassionate, dedicated, and thoughtful man he was, and keep his spirit alive in our hearts and memories.
