East Greenbush- Rita O Buchanan, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, September 7, 2025. Rita was born in Albany, NY on July 2, 1928, she was predeceased by her husband Jack R. Buchanan; her parents, Joseph E. O'Shaughnessy and Irene Kelter O'Shaughnessy; her brother William O'Shaughnessy and many family members and friends. Rita attended St. Anne's Academy in Albany and was proud that she graduated fourth in her class. After graduating, she worked for the New York Telephone Company. In 1950, she and Jack opened the Buchanan Insurance Company and worked together in the business for over 35 years. Rita enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching soap operas, rooting for the NY Yankees (primarily during the Derek Jeter years), and playing the slots at her favorite casinos. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her generosity, and her great sense of humor. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who were fortunate to be called her friend. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the kind and caring staff at the Teresian House. Services were private at the convenience of the family. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Nassau, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rita's memory can be made to the Burden Lake Improvement Association, P.O. Box 656, Averill Park, NY 12018 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children (www.shrinerschildrens.org).
