Rita (Johnson) Chatelle, 77, widow of Oliver Chatelle Jr., of Bristol, passed away peacefully at Bristol Hospital on Thursday, May 1, 2025, with her daughter by her side. Rita was born in Manchester on June 11, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Roy W. and Rose (Fracchia) Johnson. Rita attended Manchester schools and was a graduate of Manchester
High School. After high school, Rita began a career at the Aetna where she met her husband. Rita and Ollie traveled often, calling both Fort Covington, NY and Daytona Beach, FL their second homes. Becoming a mother was one of Ritas greatest joys. Even when faced with the loss of her husband, she never stopped, always moving forward with a smile on her face. She enjoyed a 34 year career at Bristol Pediatric Center. She was a well-known weaver in town, repairing suits and coats for many people in the community. Rita and Allison traveled countless times, visiting all of their friends along the way. Before Ritas mobility slowed her down, she was an avid bowler and loved her Monday night and Wednesday morning leagues. Rita enjoyed playing SCRABBLE, going to tag sales, wine slushies, tv shows with Tom Selleck, driving around in her little orange car and especially being a Grandma.
Rita is survived by her daughter Allison and her husband Keegan Masse of Burlington and their children, Ritas pride and joy, Lillian and Gunnar. She will be greatly missed by her cousins and many godchildren. Rita is also survived by her many extraordinary friends whom she has made throughout the years, too numerous to name here, that were like family to her and Allison.
We are all comforted to know that Rita was met in heaven by her husband, parents, and many beloved friends and family that went before her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 11 AM in St. Gregory the Great Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, 522 Terryville Ave, Bristol. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Please visit Ritas memorial page at www.FunkFuneralHome.com.
