Rita S. Runk

Rita S. (Staub) Runk, age 96, of McSherrystown, passed away at Homewood at Plum Creek in Hanover on January 18, 2026. She was the loving wife of the late Donald H. Runk who passed away in 1989.

Rita was born in Hanover, PA on June 9, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ceceila (Smith) Staub. She graduated from Delone Catholic High School Class of 1948 and was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover. Rita enjoyed bingo, needlepoint, playing cards, and taking bus trips and trips to Myrtle Beach, SC. She also worked at Hanover Hall for many years.

Rita is survived by her children Ronald Runk, Randy Runk and wife Sarah, Richard Runk and wife Lisa, Teresa Myers and husband Frederick, and Barbara Runk and significant other Tony Hagerman; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her granddaughter Tina Runk; her daughter-in-law Sandy Runk; her brothers Paul Staub, Joseph Staub, Leo Staub, and Earl Staub; and her sisters Margaret Atkins, Martha Staub, and Arlene Pecher.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rita's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 10:00AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Michael P. Reid, II as celebrant. She will be laid to rest following the Mass at St. Vincent Cemetery in Hanover. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, PA 17344 with recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rita's memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third St., Hanover, PA 17331.
